The ‘5-A-DAY’ Ideal

5-a-day’, in its simplest form,is making sure you’re eating 5 portions of fruit & vegetables in the day.
Ensuring you’re eating your 5-a-day is important for many reasons. Fruits & veg are sources ofvitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, which protect cells from harm.

Whilst steamed or boiled vegetables are a healthy option with meals, cooking vegetables too much often burns and removes the nutrient value, so it’s always better to consume raw veggies as part of your 5-a-day.

So, how can we meet the 5-a-day ideal?
Try to find fruit and veg you enjoy, there is an abundance of variety to choose from, even for more picky eaters! You can also incorporate them into meals – uncooked, where possible.

As a nation, on the whole we are deficient in vitamin 5, so it’s good to take vitamin D or multivitamin supplements in addition to your 5-a-day, for optimum health results.
