Combating High Mortality Rates of Mothers and Newborns in Sindh

Sindh is undoubtedly facing high incidence of infant and maternal mortality. Every expecting mother and her baby have the right to basic maternal care and facilities. A UNICEF report on child mortality considered Pakistan to have the worst newborn mortality rate. A baby born in Pakistan just has one in 22 chance of death. By having access to good nutrition, disinfectants, clean water, well trained midwives and breastfeeding within one hour of birth, more than eighty percent of such deaths can be prevented. Shortage of midwives and well trained health workers happen to be a major problem.

Some of the major reasons behind high maternal mortality in Sindh are excessive bleeding during child birth, unassisted deliveries at home, unavailability of trained community midwives and lady health workers during infections and child birth and delay in reaching healthcare facilities to prevent blood loss. IFMCH project tackles all these issues and aims to improve the overall situation in Sindh.

IFMCH aims to build a hospital in Mirpur Sakro in Thatta District which will cater to nearby villages and adjoining small towns in Sindh. It will provide people with trained doctors and other paramedical staff including midwives. This trained staff will also provide the uneducated masses with awareness regarding birth and pregnancy issues. This hospital costs about 610 million rupees. People who had no post-natal care, antenatal, gynaecological and maternity services will be able to have access to these services for free.

IFMCH is open to donations of any kind in order to carry on with their devoted efforts towards the goal of providing better health care to mothers and children. What can be a better time than Ramadan to make donations through Zakat and Charity! This project requires considerable finances in order to serve the under privileged, weak and uneducated masses. Your money will be utilized to give babies and mothers their basic rights to health care. Join our hands to improve the situation in Sindh.
