5 Simple Emotional & Social Development Activities for Babies

All parents want their little ones to be strong both socially and emotionally. Social emotional development in infants is of great importance. Bonding socially and emotionally with your infant is fun.it will not only help him become better prepared to handle his emotions and the world but also help you understand him better. Take cues from your baby and try to be there from him always. Being parents, you can help your child do that.

Here are some effective ways to help social emotional development in infants:

  1. Look Into His Eyes

Every time you talk to your infant, make eye contact. Look into his eyes as much as you can. When you tell your little one about simple things like how much you love him and what he means to you, he will know that you are talking to him. With time he will learn the importance of looking at people when he talks to them. This kind of constant contact even gives your little one self-confidence which he will not realize right now. You look at her and she looks back at you is actually the first step of bonding between you and your infant.

  1. Respond To Him Speaking

For the first few months, your infant won’t be able to speak in the literal sense but he does make sounds. That is his way of communicating. Don’t ignore all the small cooing sounds he makes. Instead give them importance by always responding to him and replying him back like you understand him. You can move hands, make different facial expressions and nod in response to all that he is saying.

  1. Help Dispel Separation Anxiety

In the coming months, your infant is going to go through a lot of separation anxiety particularly every time he doesn’t see you. You need to make him understand that even if you are not in front of it, you are always around. You can develop that sense in him by playing games like peekaboo. You use your hand to hide your face of simply go behind the door and peep. Another way of doing this can be by simply standing in front of him and saying that you are going but you will be back. Just move away for few seconds and come back with a smile tell him ‘see mama is back’.

  1. Respond To His Cries

Being a parent of your little infant, it is important to show him that you are always there for him. Go check on your infant the moment he starts crying. If he was sleeping and cries all of a sudden, just peep to see if he falls back to sleep. If he continues to cry, just pat her and soothe her by telling you are there and making shh noises. Hold him if your need and rock him back and forth. Take cues from her crying and respond accordingly to comfort him.

  1. Talk About Your Day:

It is never too early to talk to your child. Talking to your child about your day is a great social development activity even if you think he doesn’t understand what you are saying. You can tell your infant what you are doing even when you massage his body or breastfeed him. You can just talk about simple things like where your papa is, what his sibling is doing, or how much love him. Take him close to a window and tell him what you see outside, the doorbell just rang, who came to visit, the birds are singing and anything else that is happening right that moment.
