Everything You Need to Know about 1 To 3 Months Baby Sleep

New parents do everything to make their newborn sleep better but at times it can be very difficult for you to make him sleep. Making them sleep properly can be a gradual process that requires patience on your side. 1 to 3 month old baby sleeping patterns keep changing unpredictably. It is just a part of child’s growth and development.

Newborns usually need more sleep. If he isn’t sleeping well, then here are some of the things you can do to help:

  1. Circadian Rhythm Development:

The natural sleep cycle called the circadian rhythm of the body is usually underdeveloped in newborn children. It takes about three to four months’ time for this rhythm to properly develop. Children who have underdeveloped circadian cycle tend to sleep more in day time and remain awake at night. Mothers can alter this situation by exposing children to natural light as it promotes the early development of circadian rhythm. Make sure that your child gets more natural light in day time.

  1. Interaction with the Child

While it is true that your baby doesn’t understand what you are saying but it is essential for mother to interact with their child right from the beginning. This helps to build baby’s communication and cognitive skill. Interaction helps your baby to understand the stark difference between day and night. Communicate more with him in the day than night. This way your baby will understand that this is time to sleep. Lively interactions in the day and lesser ones at night automatically set up the clock in their body helping them to stick to sleeping routine.

  1. Follow their Sleeping Cues

This is a great way to make your baby sleep early. Just let him follow his own sleeping cues since babies are best at informing their parents when they want to sleep and when they feel most tired. Some of the common signs that your baby is feeling sleepy include eyebrows turning red, gazing off, frowning and yawning. You can follow these sleep cues and gradually your baby will get used to the daily routine helping him sleep early and well.

  1. Make your ‘Feeding’ Schedule Regular

Adopting regular feeding schedules can play a role in driving your baby to sleep. Feeding schedules can have a direct effect on sleeping schedule. Newborns are usually required to be fed every two or three hours. If you continue to maintain a feeding and sleeping schedule for one to three months, your baby is going to follow better sleeping patterns in the later stages. It can help your newborn baby follow and early bedtime routine in his developing months.

  1. Cuddle

If you really want your baby to sleep early, cuddle with him every day particularly in the early stages. Cuddle him or hold him firmly making it part of the bedtime routine. With time, this will let the infant know that this means it is time for them to sleep. Both parents can rock him or comfort him helping him realize that it is sleep time. This also gives the baby a sense of security. Swaddling is a good way of making sure that the child sleeps peacefully without being disturbed.
